Celebrating Black History Month

In recognition of Black History Month, the Town of Pembroke Park will be honoring a different influential African-American each day.
Today’s honoree is:
LANA “MC LYTE” MOORER
Ms. Lana Moorer was born on October 11, 1970 in Queens and raised in East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 17, she appeared on the scene in 1988 with her debut album “Lyte as a Rock”. Since that time this legendary lyricist, D.J., voice over talent, actress, entertainer, and icon has proven greatness always prevails with the release of a total of nine albums. MC Lyte was the FIRST rap artist ever to perform at New York’s historic Carnegie Hall and the FIRST female rapper to receive a gold single. She has received Grammy nominations, BET Award nominations and was the FIRST solo female rapper to be honored and inducted on VH-1’s HIPHOP HONORS in 2006.
